Mr. Andrew Hamm has been teaching math and science classes at Boyceville High School since the fall of 2007. Classes that Mr. Hamm has taught include Physical Science, General Chemistry, AP Chemistry, AP Physics B, AP Physics 1, Algebra I, Advanced Algebra, Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus AB.
Mr. Hamm grew up in nearby Menomonie, WI, graduating from Menomonie High School in 2002. A lifelong interest in the atmospheric sciences led Mr. Hamm to Northland College in Ashland, WI, where he graduated in 2005 with degrees in Meteorology and Mathematics and a minor in Physics. The College Board’s Advanced Placement program allowed Mr. Hamm to graduate college in only three years, as he passed seven different AP tests at Menomonie High School.
While an undergrad at Northland College, Mr. Hamm had the opportunity to participate in two highly-regarded summer internships, or REUs (Research Experience for Undergraduates). In the summer of 2003, Mr. Hamm participated in the Oklahoma Weather Center Research Experience for Undergraduates, a 10 week summer research experience at the University of Oklahoma and National Severe Storms Lab in Norman, OK. The work that resulted from this research experience was presented at the National Meeting of the American Meteorological Society in Seattle in January 2004.
Mr. Hamm also participated in the NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center Summer Internship in Greenbelt, MD in the summer of 2004. Research this summer focused on global sea ice and, specifically, multiyear arctic sea ice. The work that resulted from this research experience was presented at the National Meeting of the American Meteorological Society in San Diego in January 2015.
After graduation from Northland College, Mr. Hamm accepted a Graduate Assistantship at the University of Oklahoma. Mr. Hamm returned to Wisconsin, taking his first teaching job at Athens High School in Athens, Wi in September 2006.
In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Mr. Hamm is the head coach of the Boyceville Middle and High School Science Olympiad Teams. Mr. Hamm has also coached volleyball and basketball in the past, and is currently a WIAA licensed volleyball official.
